It all started about 12 years ago, the moment my agency sent me to New York. While going from casting to casting, from shoots to even more castings, I obviously came in touch with many makeup artists.
Discovering the Big Apple from under the ground during my subway rituals up to the highest floors (which means going in and out the subway for an average of 40 times a day), you can imagine it was quite a hassle to take control of my skin. I regularly had to face breakouts and more irregularities on my skin during this hectic period of my life. Since I have always been a natural kind of girl, not too much makeup for me, having to deal with layers on your face was actually inevitable. Caked in makeup we shine in front of the camera, but as soon as the camera is off I choose to clean my face again and try to be as natural as I can.
The results of the layers of makeup also caused small breakouts on my skin in the past and with so many products offered on the market, it is hard to choose which products suit you best. After lots of trial-and-errors and on the recommendation of many make-up artists in New York I started to use the Special Cleansing Gel from Dermalogica, which many years later now, I am still using. This cleansing gel truly keeps my skin calm, fresh and glowy. I once tried another product and instantly my skin changed and not in a good way. The cleansing gel is now one of my best friends;), which I bring along everywhere I travel to. To get rid of the dead skin cells I have added the Daily Microfoliant to my daily routine.
Talking about my day-to-day facial hydration, my real favorite is using oil. Oil naturally sinks and penetrates deep into the skin, with all the benefits it has to offer. The oil contains anti-inflammatory properties, which helps to quell irritated skin. But there is a down part of it, the ‘shine bright like a Diamant’ feel isn’t necessarily resulting in a smile on a photographers face. So I have been looking into a solution. This is why I have started using the Phyto Replenish Oil. It is really easy to use since you just have to press 4 to 6 drops into your skin and follow it with moisturizer. You can alternatively mix it with moisturizer to apply. Basically, this product is the perfect primer in combination with makeup since it is shine-free due to restored luminosity. This particular oil with its ingredients Camellia, Chia Seed Oils and Orchid is a luxurious version, which can be layered with other skincare products. Another disadvantage of my oily day cream is that it doesn’t provide any sunscreen. Having to work a lot of times outdoors, on location, a real SPF factor with a solid hydrating base is a definite must. So basically I have been looking for a combination of oil and a hydrating cream, which protects you against the sun. For this reason, I have been using the Phyto Replenish Oil in combination with my day cream: The Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50.
Half a year ago I started to face a new challenge, looking fresh and healthy while sleeping very little…Yes, I became a mother! The most beautiful thing in life, but OMG those nights…Logically this also affects your skin. Eating healthy, working out helps me a lot but a little extra help is always appreciated;)
After a visit to the SOAP treatment store in Amsterdam, I came home with Dermalogica’s MultiVitamin Power Recovery Masque. This mask now rescues me when I am very tired or stressed and still have to perform in front of the camera. It is a real recommendation for all of us since I discovered that by putting on a mask you oblige yourself to relax and to stay in. So do you get it now, my logic behind Dermalogica?
