Lumpy cheeks? Check. One more than the other? Check. Does that happen to be the one you sleep on? Check. Falling asleep at the sofa sometimes? There you go. The problem is, you and your sofa are not exclusive. Besides your face, its seats also comfort bums in jeans that have been to the bathroom, the metro, Mac Donalds, and who knows where more.
See, this would never happen to our beauties from South Korea. Their K-Beauty industry is built up in steps. The routine incorporates massage, cleansing, peeling, deep hydrating, post hydrating… All these steps make you very aware of your skins day-to-day needs, boost your blood circulation and even beats stress as it gives you at least half an hour of quality time with yourself.
Buying all the (pricey) products might be stressful though. And maybe you don’t like your bathroom as much as your sofa. No worries, in this case you can cut the ten steps down to two: cleansing and hydrating. My favourite, Clean It Zero from Banila Co, even covers both. The oil-based cleanser is creamy like a solid coconut oil, yet light. It melts as you put a dime-sized drop to your face. Massage it gently to your skin (blood circulation!) with concentrating, circling motions. Touch your skin, your eyes, and your lips. Let it lather for a minute or two so you can really absorb its argan oil for hydration, while its aloe vera and calendula renew your cells. Rosemary and chamomile will calm your face down, fighting redness – and the orange peel leaves you feeling fresh. Ready to fall asleep on a clean pillow.
As my skin is naturally oily, the term oil based cleanser at first scared me. But as long as it doesn’t contain any earth oil, it will not do any harm. In fact oil removes oil. And rather than drying out your skin with harsh tonics which will, eventually, only improve sebum, it’s better to use this gentle, skin friendly cream. The oil dissolves when you wash it off anyway. Just leaves the skin hydrated, and keeps you from getting wrinkly too!
If you really feel like you need something extra to rescue your face of all the dirt you can add one step: Sea Daffodil cleansing mousse, available at Peach and Lily. This gentle foamy cleanser has to be massaged onto the skin (again, blood circulation) and is too gentle to dry it out. It contains papain, which is that little extra you were probably looking for. It exfoliates dull, dead skin cells and leaves you all smooth!
